Illegal Viagra In Pakistan Arousing Concern
Possibly the largest worldwide market for fake and illegal Viagra is to be found in Pakistan and especially in Islamabad. It appears that the world famous erectile dysfunction drug that contains sildenafil citrate is often mixed in with the local Unani medicine. The market for these fake Viagra pills is booming mainly due to the reason that the authorities have little interest in enforcing the laws and rules pertaining to the illegal manufacture of drugs.
Recently a report outlining the situation was submitted to the Supreme Court in Pakistan by the health authorities in the country and it was seen that many different illegal drugs were being made in the country such as drugs that work on the central nervous system, sildenafil citrate (Viagra) and many other drugs like steroids and painkillers. The fact that these drugs are being made illegally poses a severe risk to the health of the nation.
The report authors were aware that some pharmaceuticals manufacturers in Pakistan were knowingly involved in this illegal black market business of the sale of drugs such as sildenafil citrate that eventually finds its way into fake Viagra pills and into other supposedly natural remedies for impotence. The traditional Unani medicines used all over Pakistan are now being contaminated with the illegal Viagra ingredient sildenafil citrate.
Not only was the Viagra compound being found in the Unanai medicine but also in Ayurvedic and homoeopathic medicines and this was highly illegal and was therefore duping the unsuspecting customers and putting them at elevated risk of the Viagra side effects.
The Pakistani authorities and the Chief Justice feel that the situation is getting out of hand and thus they formed a committee to compile and write the report. In a recent meeting it was pointed out that the national and also foreign pharmaceutical firms were adopting unethical, illegal and dangerous practices which were enriching the manufacturers greatly and the health of the consumers was suffering.
The committee recommended that the regulations of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council should be looked at and enforced more strongly so that the illegal manufacturers of Viagra and other drugs would be stopped and that the retailers would be forced to get proper prescriptions for the sale of those drugs that required them. They also said that the illegal adverts for these medicines must also be stopped and as people were being led to put their health in danger.
