Pfizer To Only Use Unichem
The latest Viagra news is that Pfizer have announced that as of next week they will now only be distributing and selling their world famous erectile dysfunction drug Viagra through one UK wholesaler, namely Unichem. What this means is that any UK pharmacy that wants to stock Viagra will have to deal with a representative of Unichem and won’t be able to get the erectile dysfunction drug from any other wholesaler.
Other wholesalers are in a fury about this move and say that it is stifling fair competition and could end up with Pfizer pushing up prices for some essential other drugs. They say that the law should not allow this unfair practice and are seeking a High Court ruling to challenge the Pfizer decision. They have also petitioned the Office of Fair Trading to look into the matter.
Other concerns were that if for some reason Unichem was not able to meet demand for some drugs then there would be no other way of getting them and it could end up in a situation where big drug companies would be controlling the distribution of medicines and drugs. The DDA (The Dispensing Doctors Association) said that they were behind the legal action and that many wholesalers should be allowed to stock Viagra and other Pfizer drugs.
Pfizer argue that they this move is in the interests of economy and that it is not against the rules in any way. They say that this will able them to further control their supply chain and prevent the theft of medicines especially Viagra. Another increasing recurring problem is that counterfeit drugs are entering the legitimate supply chain and ending up in hospitals and pharmacies and by having only one dedicated wholesaling supplier this practice will be easier to prevent.
This action by Pfizer will have no impact on the sales of Viagra or any other medications through Ukmedix.
