Viagra Bust In Manila
In a carefully coordinated operation the police in the Phillipine capital of Manila got away with a haul of £35,000 worth of fake Viagra tablets that were hidden in pharmacies and in warehouses. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of Manila acted fast and efficiently to sieze the drugs in 8 pharmacies and warehouses in Binondo area so that the criminals who make the fake erectile dysfunction medicines could not get away or destroy the evidence. The police had previously applied for and had been granted a search and arrest warrant by a Manila court.
The main motivation for the arrests came from the drug giant Pfizer who notified the police of the illegal operation and were keen to stop the illegal supply of the drugs so that their real version could be sold. In all some 1,127 boxes of fake Viagra were captured and a number of men were arrested too. The fake drugs are likely to have been made in China and Pfizer were quick to point out that they could be dangerous and probably were not exact replicas of the impotence drug Viagra and were unlikely to work properly.
The problem of fake Viagra is a worldwide one and one that Pfizer is keen to stamp out and control. Rather than relying on the local police to arrest and find the sources of fake Viagra, Pfizer has been busy looking out for the countefeiters themselves and then tipping of the local police to make the arrests. Fake Viagra is made in China and India and is often comes at a much lower price than the original version which makes it much more popular especially in poorer countries. Fake Viagra has found its way into the UK with many illegal online pharmacies selling it.
