Viagra Gets Exposure In Film
A film that has recently come out called "I Think I Love My Wife" has a scene in it which is supposed to be extremely funny and involves a man taking Viagra. Apparently what happens is the man takes his Viagra tablet only to find out that his wife has gone to sleep, and the film centres on the next four hours when the man gets himself into a series of scrapes and situations which are very amusing.
What we were all discussing in the Ukmedix newsroom was whether or not the Viagra in the film had been product placed by the producers and directors of the film. After all they could have easily approached Eli Lilly and used a Cialis pill instead which would have been great publicity for the company and for which the company probably would’ve paid a vast amounts of money.
The three manufacturers of erectile dysfunction drugs namely Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Bayer are spending millions and millions of dollars every year on promoting their own impotence drugs and a film would have been a great opportunity to get ahead of one of the others. It may be however that Pfizer was just handed the promotion on a plate and that they were not actually approached to have their product in the film.
What may well happen is that a campaign to say that these erectile dysfunction drugs are being treated as recreational drugs and not as serious medications will begin and doctors and health professionals will up in arms about the fact that this film is promoting Viagra as a fun and irresponsible drug. The film is directed by Chris Rock who also acts in it and is the screenwriter. It isn’t out in the UK yet but in the Ukmedix newsroom we will be going down to watch it when it does, and we will let you know what we think of it and how Viagra is portrayed in the film.
