Viagra Handbrake Cover Marketing

08 March 2007 (Thursday)

The marketing men at Pfizer are becoming more daring and are thinking of new ways to promote their famous erectile dysfunction product Viagra. The latest one that we have come across is the Viagra handbrake cover (see picture) that is being consider for use in the Arab nation of Kuwait.
In many Arab and gulf countries the Viagra drug is much more freely available in pharmacies than it is in say the UK and often doesn’t require a prescription. The JWT advertising agency was keen to show Viagra as a macho drug for a man who just wants to have more sex as opposed to a drug that is for impotent men and therefore the use of the Viagra handbrake cover fits into the macho image.

In many other countries like the UK and America this sort of advertising would be frowned upon and organisations like the AIDS Healthcare Foundation have a lot to say about what they call the “irresponsible marketing of Viagra”. They argue that Viagra must be seen to be a serious medicine for men who suffer from impotence and not as a sexual performance enhancing drug.

At Ukmedix News we had a bit of a laugh when we came across the photo and we wondered what a girl would think if she got into your car and you had that on your handbrake. Would she think you had a medical problem or would she think that you were planning on being an extraordinary lover after taking a Viagra tab. Most of the girls in the newsroom said that they would jump straight out of the car if they saw the Viagra handbrake cover.

In Kuwait where the macho men are not so subtle and they glam up their cars with spoilers and chrome and Viagra handbrake cover maybe just the tickets for a man about town.
