Viagra Versus Birth Control Pills
In America for example a Federal court has ruled that the Union Pacific Railroad Company has not broken any laws of discrimination by the non coverage of birth control medication from the company’s in-house insurance plan. Originally the decision had gone in favour of the female employees but the company appealed the decision and have won.
The arguments in favour of giving women these anti-pregnancy pills free was that by not doing so women were at a disadvantage to men and therefore the insurance policy was discriminating against them. The women argued that these pills were not only to be prescribed to women to stop them getting pregnant but also because some women suffer from very painful period cramps that can be prevented with this sort of medication.
The argument gets even more complicated because the same company’s insurance plan allows men to get Viagra, Cialis and Levitra free by claiming it on the insurance. The women claim that very often men don’t really need Viagra or other erectile dysfunction drugs but just claim that they have an erection problem in order to get the medicine free. This is more likely to occur in younger men who just want to boost their sexual performance, but with some older men they really do have a problem and they really do need help and they feel that their insurance policies should cover them for the illness of erectile dysfunction.
Interestingly the same company’s insurance policy also covers men who are suffering from Male Pattern Balding and they are allowed to get Propecia as well as other hair loss medications free of charge. It’s definitely a complicated issue and one that is bound to see much more litigation in the future before things are resolved satisfactory. At Ukmedix News we will be looking out for any new court rulings on the issue of whether erectile dysfunction drugs should be prescribed free of charge to men who claim impotence.
